By using MarginBase (shopmarginbase.com), you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the site.

What the site is

MarginBase provides free, browser-based calculators and related pages for planning shop pricing: markup and margin, break-even, reverse sales tax, food cost, and rough marketplace fee estimates. Content is general information for US sellers — not a personal consultation.

Estimates, not professional advice

Calculators, guides, FAQs, and examples are not tax, legal, accounting, bookkeeping, or marketplace-compliance advice. Using the site does not create a professional relationship with us. Shelf prices and take-home after fees depend on your real costs, platform fee schedules, and local tax rules; consult a bookkeeper, CPA, or tax professional before you rely on a number for filings, contracts, or large inventory buys.

Sales tax you collect is generally not your revenue. Marketplace fee defaults on this site are starting estimates — your seller dashboard and contracts control.

Accuracy and limitations

We try to keep documented formulas and fee defaults correct, but we make no warranty that results are accurate, complete, or current. Calculators intentionally simplify (for example: one product at a time, one tax rate you type, fee defaults you can override). See methodology for formulas, defaults, and known gaps.

Platforms change fees; states change tax rules; your costs change. Always double-check before you print price tags, list inventory, or remit tax.

No accounts; your inputs

Calculators run in your browser. We do not require an account. We do not operate a server database of your costs or prices. If you email us a screenshot or paste inputs for a bug report, that email is handled as correspondence — not as a product analytics feed.

Advertising and analytics

The site is free to use. We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4) (measurement ID G-F1H4DNDCG3) for aggregate traffic measurement. Google AdSense is not serving ads yet and may be enabled after approval to help keep the tools free.

  • Ads and analytics scripts are third-party services governed by Google's terms and privacy policy
  • Ad content is not an endorsement by MarginBase
  • We are not responsible for third-party sites you reach by clicking an ad
  • You may see personalized or contextual ads depending on your Google settings and jurisdiction
  • Blocking ads or cookies may affect how ads and measurement work; calculator math does not require an ad click

Acceptable use

You may:

  • Use the calculators for your own shop or for client work
  • Link to public pages on this site
  • Quote short excerpts with attribution for commentary or education

You may not:

  • Scrape the site at abusive volume or in a way that degrades service for others
  • Attempt to break, overload, or bypass security on the site or its host
  • Republish substantial portions of the site (copy decks, tool UIs, or methodology) as your own product without permission
  • Misrepresent calculator output as certified tax, audit, or legal conclusions
  • Use automated means to click ads or manipulate analytics

Intellectual property

Site design, branding, copy, and code arrangement are owned by the site operator or its licensors. Formulas themselves are ordinary arithmetic; the presentation and tooling are not a public domain dump for cloning. Trademarks of Etsy, Shopify, Amazon, Google, and others belong to their owners — we mention them only to describe fee contexts.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, MarginBase and its operators are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, this site — including underpriced goods, fee surprises, sales-tax mistakes, lost sales, inventory decisions, or decisions influenced by ads you saw here. The site is provided “as is” without warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

Indemnity

You agree to hold the site operator harmless from claims arising out of your misuse of the site, your violation of these terms, or your reliance on estimates without professional review where required.

External links

Pages may link to third-party sites (methodology citations, Google policies, platforms). We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content or practices.

Changes

We may update these terms as the site, GA4 configuration, or advertising setup changes. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we revise this page.

Governing law
